These pools
first appeared in the US around 1968 on the West
Coast. The gunite swimming pool system was developed
and perfected by Anthony Pools in California, and
then marketed throughout the United States. Anthony
Pools subsequently purchased an outstanding concrete
pool building firm in Pennsylvania, and is now known
as
Anthony&Sylvan Pools
with headquarters in Doylestown, PA.

Six years
ago, my wife and I bought a house with a twenty
year old gunite/plaster swimming pool. Unknown to
me, the pool had sat empty for some time and was
never maintained properly. I inherited a black algae
problem, which I spent years unsuccessfully trying
to combat.
When I finally drained the pool, I
found thousands of tiny "pits" in the plaster, each
a home to black algae. I tried acid washing and
pool paint, but the algae always came back. I became
frustrated and even considered having the pool filled
in.
Luckily, I came across the UGlassIt website
and decided to order the book. Four months ago my
sons and I resurfaced the pool with fiberglass.
The project involved some work, which was well rewarded
in the end.
I now have a beautiful swimming pool
which I enjoy and am proud to show to my friends.
